In my unit on the environment in second grade, I learned that the Amazon is being destroyed. Hearing about this made me scared and also sad. I did a lot of research online to learn how to help the Amazon and other rainforests.
Humans are cutting down the trees to make paper and build things.
In the past five years, many thousands of cubic kilometers PER YEAR are being cut down. The area being lost each year is larger than the state of South Carolina. That is dozens of soccer fields of trees lost each minute.
If you are reading these words, then you are probably a human. So, you breathe oxygen. The Amazon rainforest creates around 20% of the world's oxygen. If we do not act soon to protect rainforests, it will get harder for everyone to breathe.
